The Correct Sequence of the 5513 Matte Dials are as Follows:
METERS FIRST
The change from the gilt gloss dialed 5513 to the meters first matte dialed 5513 started around the 1.6 mil serial range or 1966. The majority of the cases stamped with a 1.7 serial number were produced in 1968, and by then the meters first matte dial was in full production. (click here to learn more)
Non SERIF and SERIF DIALS
The Non Serif and Serif Dials immediately followed the Meters First Dials. The Non Serif Dials were introduced first around late 1969 to early 1970 consistent with cases stamped with serial numbers in the very early 2.0 million range. (click here to learn more)
Pre COMEX
The first question many of you ask is who gave it that name and why. Well here is your answer. Ed Delgado posted the following on VRF on October 24, 2008, “The term Pre COMEX I used initially a few months ago to refer to watches with very similar characteristics to some of the COMEX 5514 dials. MAXI DIALS
The Maxi Dial run started after 1976 and continued until around 1984 with the introduction of the black gloss dial with white gold surrounds. Collectors have adopted the term Maxi because of the larger tritium plots compared to the previous dials, a carry over term used to describe the larger hour lume plots on the 16610LV introduced in 2003.
